Where Is The WPS Button On My Router- And What Does WPS Do-

We’ve all been in this situation, trying to connect a new device to a network, only to repeatedly fail to type in the overly complicated wifi password. Luckily, many modern routers have a feature that does away with the need to enter a password when connecting to a router.

This feature is called WPS, please read on to find out a bit more about what WPS, is and how to use it on your router.

So, What Exactly Is WPS?

WPS stands for Wifi Protected Setup. It is a feature on many routers that allows for the fast and easy connection of a device to a router. It uses the WPA Personal, or the WPA2 Personal security settings to provide a quick and easy way for devices to connect to your network.

Normally when you connect to a router, you have to find the network you want to connect to and then put in a long and complicated password to connect.

There are many important reasons to have a strong password, including the fact that having a stronger password will reduce the chance of outsiders accessing your network and therefore stealing your data.

However, one downside is that it does make it more difficult to connect to your network. WPS, on the other hand, allows you to simply connect with the push of a button.

This has a number of benefits, mainly that it is generally much easier to connect a new device if you don’t have to worry about entering your password every time.

The way you use WPS will depend on the device you are trying to connect. Some devices such as cameras and printers will have a dedicated WPS button, while others, like some laptops, will simply require you to try to select the chosen network as you normally would. WPS will then take over and automatically connect your device.

It should be mentioned that certain versions of WPS may not be quite as secure as using a strong password. While the push button method of using WPS is generally secure, WPS can also be accessed by using an eight digit pin code.

The pin code method is not as secure as the push button method and as such many people recommend that you should either ensure that this method of authentication is disabled on your WPS router or even completely disable the WPS feature.

Where Is The WPS Button On My Router?!

This will vary depending on your router, but generally, you will be looking for a physical button that will often be marked out with either the letters WPS or with two arrows pointing in opposite directions. If you are unsure, please refer to your router’s instruction manual.

Tell Me Quick, How Do I Connect With WPS?

This will vary slightly depending on the exact device you are using, however, connecting with WPS will usually go something like this.

First, make sure your router is on and able to allow devices to connect to it.Next, press the WPS button on your router. This will give you a two-minute time span to allow other devices to connect to your router.

Finally, connect your device to the router within the two-minute period. This will often involve simply selecting your network from the list of available networks, or pressing the WPS button on your device.

  1. I did not receive an installation guide with my new modem. There were two in the box but neither were in English.
