Trendnet TEW-812DRU Features
Aside from having ground-breaking Wireless AC, there’s some other very useful features packed into this little Trendnet box…..
8 Features of the Trendnet TEW-812DRU
Wireless AC (1.3Gbps)
The Trendnet TEW-812DRU can handle a massive 1.3Gbps of throughput, using Wireless AC (802.11ac). Wireless AC is the very latest wireless technology (up to 3 times faster than Wireless N). It uses a combination of MIMO & Beamforming technology to direct the strongest wireless signal to the devices that need it most. Backwardly compatible with 802.11g/b/a
Dual Band Technology
Make the most out of your wireless network. Utilize both the 5GHz Wireless AC (1.3Gbps) and 2.4GHz Wireless N (450Mbps) to give a speeds up to 1.75Gbps. Have the option of using Wireless AC for critical and HD traffic (streaming movies, voice & online games) and Wireless N for all the other traffic types (Internet browsing, file sharing etc).
Supports IPv6
Be prepared for the future. The TEW-812DRU is IPv6 compatible. IPv6 is the next generation of IP addressing that we will all be using.
One Touch Connection (WPS)
Set up your wireless devices with the touch of a button. WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) is designed to let you connect and authenticate wireless devices with the single press of a button.
USB Port
Share your video & music files from an external hard drive or flash pen using the USB port. Can also be used as a port for a USB printer.
Guest Access
Just like wireless in a cafe, you can create a network dedicated for guests. Set up a dedicated wireless SSID to log into and feel safe with the knowledge that your guests will have no access to your private network & data.
QoS
Configure Quality of Service on your WAN port to protect your sensitive traffic form lag & dropouts.
Parental & Internet Access Control
Have complete control over what your kids can access with the built-in Parental Control tool. Easy to set up and manage, there are filters that can be applied so you won’t need to worry about what could potentially be viewed or read by your kids. You can also use Internet Access Control to filter by MAC address, URL, ports or IP addresses. The Internet Access Control is also time based, so you can block or filter whatever times suit you.

Trendnet TEW-812DRU Conclusion
Pros
- Wireless AC!!!
- Competitive price
- Looks good
Cons
- Only one USB port
Its design is understated and refined – we like that. Setting up should prove not to be difficulty, and you should be up and running in under 10 minutes.
The Wireless AC is very impressive – a big jump up in performance compared to the Trendnet 802.11n routers. Coverage is increased and speeds are more than doubled. This should be enough to locally stream HD video successfully.
With the Dual-band feature, both Wireless AC & N can be used simultaneously, giving the option of load-balancing different data types over the two ranges.
The other features are fairly easy to configure within the dashboard. QoS and Parental control require a little patience, but once configured are definitely beneficial.
The Trendnet TEW-812DRU comes with a 3 year warranty and customer support for peace of mind.
If you’re looking for a Wireless AC router, then this Trendnet landmark router should be in your comparison list.
