The Netgear R6050 AC750 Dual Band router isn’t the fastest router around. But then Netgear aren’t pretending that it is. In fact, it’s better to think of the R6050 as a budget AC router.
What does this actually mean? Well, it means you can run your traditional 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wireless N devices on it, but for those of you with AC adapters/network cards, you can log into the R6050 and enjoy AC speeds. Ok, so the AC speeds are not lightning fast. If that’s what you wanted, you would get yourself one of the nighthawk routers, but they are faster than the 802.11n band.
It has a USB port, which is handy if you want to share, but be warned that it’s not USB 3.0. But then again, as it’s not Gigabit wireless router, you won’t need USB 3.0, as the wifi will be your bottleneck…again, the Nighthawk is your friend here, if that’s what you need as far as Netgear are concerned.
Ok, so what else do we need to know? Well, here’s the feature list…
Netgear R6050 AC750 Dual Band Router Features
Don’t be expecting a long list of kick-a$$ features here. It is a budget router after all!
6 Features of the Netgear R6050
Wireless AC – For Those On A Budget
The R6050 uses Dual Band wifi to reach maximum theoretical data rates of 750Mbps combined over the 2.4 & 5GHz frequency bands.
The 5GHz AC band can reach up to 433Mbps and the 2.4GHz band up to 300Mbps.
Ok, so not the killer speeds of most of the routers we’ve looked at recently. However, if you have wired devices on Gigabit, you are in luck! The R6050 has 4x 1Gbps Ethernet ports at the back to plug in games consoles or PCs…or whatever appliances you have that use an Ethernet port. The ports will run at 10Mbps or 100Mbps should your devices run at those speeds.
The antennas are adjustable and are 5dBi gain to help push signal further, improving coverage.
USB Port
There’s a USB port on board for your printer or Flash Drive. With ReadySHARE USB you can share out files, videos or music from the drive to everyone on your network over wifi or wired Ethernet.
There’s also ReadySHARE Printer for sharing the printer around the home.
Advanced QoS
Set priority for devices to use certain applications with potentially less impact. Especially useful when accessing the Internet, as that usually is the bottleneck for network traffic which can cause user experience to downgrade. QoS helps to improve the experience.
Guest Network
Set up visitors on a Guest network. This keeps your personal network safe from your guests while at the same time letting them get onto the Internet.
Netgear Genie App
Take control of the R6050 AC750 with the Genie App. This free tool lets you monitor your network and set it up the way you want.
You can install the app on your smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Parental Controls & WiFi Button
Useful for making sure the kids behave, Parental Controls let you restrict access to certain kinds of websites, for all your connected devices.
There’s also a button on the box where you can manually turn the wifi on or off.
