Netgear AC1600 R6250-100NAS Features

You want Dual Band, fast USB access and a killer processor that will run anything thrown at it? Well luckily enough, Netgear boast that this router has it all…

7 Features of the Netgear AC1600 R6250-100NAS

Dual Band 1.6Gbps
Using both 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequencies, a total of 1600Mbps throughput is available. The 5GHz frequency range is used for bandwidth thirsty and sensitive traffic types e.g. HD streaming and online gaming, whilst the 2.4GHz frequency is used for normal data types e.g. downloads, internet browsing, file-sharing etc.

Wireless AC
The very latest in wireless technology is here – 802.11ac. More bandwidth is available than ever before, with extended coverage and more channels, using AC Beamforming to make sure that you stay connected faster, for longer and without interference.

USB 3.0 Port
Share a printer, or the contents of a USB drive at super fast speeds. USB 3.0 lets you share your data at up to 10x faster then your standard USB ports.

Backwards Compatibilty
Support wireless old and new. Connect all your old hardware using 802.11 a/b/g/n.

QoS Control

Conclusion for the Netgear AC1600 R6250-100NAS

Good

  • Exceptional Coverage
  • USB 3.0 Port
  • Dual Core Processor

Not so Good

  • Only one USB port

First off, the Netgear AC1600 R6250-100NAS is as good-looking as the previous recent releases from the Netgear fold. A shiny, black flat front, which beautifully disguises the computerized grunt beneath. Boasting a 800MHz dual processor, the R6250-100NAS has no problems with routing traffic in and around your network and beyond – either using the wired Gigabit ports, or the wireless network, which is capable of a combined data rate speed of 1.6Gbps.

Setup is straight-forward. There is the option to use the Netgear Genie app, meaning no CD installation is required (although CD installation can be done if preferred). The Genie app is also a monitoring tool, so you can keep an eye on the performance of the R6250-100NAS from your PC, phone or tablet.

We really like the inclusion of the USB 3.0 port, which should be standard on all routers these days. However, it would have been nice to have more than one USB port. So often, users like to have a hard drive and a USB printer as shared devices.

Other features that we liked were the intuitive QoS and Parental Control settings.

The Netgear AC1600 R6250-100NAS is a welcome addition to the Netgear family…
