Although the DGL-5500 is a good wireless gaming router for the money, it’s always preferable to use an Ethernet cable where possible. This is always going to be the case using Wi-Fi due to the technical limitations and protocol overhead that comes with wireless technology.

Wireless is half-duplex as opposed to Ethernet’s full-duplex technology – so it’s always going to be second best. Having said that, if you are unable to run a cable to the D-Link DGL-5500, the wireless method should be a big improvement over other routers in this price range. Just make sure that you choose 5GHz for gaming – it’s much better than the 2.4GHz solution.
