Asus RT-N66U Product Features
As previously mentioned, we outline all the key features and highlight the benefits of each.
7 Features of the RT-N66U
– Dual-Band Connectivity
The Asus RT-N66U delivers 2.4GHz & 5GHz bands at the same time, each allowing 450Mbps (900Mbps in total). One device can download/stream/browse on the 2.4GHz band, while another user can do exactly the same on the 5GHz band without any conflicts.
– AI Radar
Wireless connection is more stable with the Asus AI Radar system. The AI Radar can independently focus signals in a particular direction to boost signal, ensure stability and increase wireless performance to devices no matter where their location.
– 2 x Built-in USB ports
The RT-N66U has two USB ports so that you can fileshare, host a web server and add a USB printer without using up one of the 4 LAN ports. You can also plug in a hard drive and share the contents.
– Complete Management
Manage the RT-N66U with your PC, laptop, phone or tablet – using wireless or cable. It comes with a web interface that allows you to setup, monitor, adjust QoS, block websites (Parental Control) and apply updates. Access is controlled via a username & password of your choice.
– IPv6 & VPN Server Support
IPv6 is supported, making the RT-N66U future proof. Access your home network from anywhere in the world using secure VPN Server. Using MPPE encryption every connection is protected and secured.
– Quality of Service (QoS)
Prioritise Gaming, VoIP, Streaming or Skype over other traffic to ensure smooth voice conversation and flowing video. The Asus RT-N66U has a QoS section in the graphical interface to allow you to easily prioritise traffic whichever way suits you.

Asus RT-N66U Conclusion
Pros
Lots of features
Easy to set up
Excellent user interface
Cons
Not particularly cheap
Setting up the RT-N66U is very intuitive. You can use the web interface method by cabling a laptop to the Ethernet ports (a bundled CD is the alternative method). Connection to the Internet is achieved within a couple of minutes.
The RT-N66U has an excellent dashboard for setting up the router whichever way suits best. It’s possible to set up QoS to prioritize Skype traffic, so that if anyone else was using the router, for downloading etc, the Skype chats didn’t drop or lose connection. A very nice touch…
Note that although this a dual-band router, only one band can be used on each device at any one time (you can however have both 2.4GHz & 5GHz ranges used simultaneously on the router).
Other nice features are the USB & VPN access. It allows connection remotely into a USB hard-drive – safely encrypted and easy to set up. The in-built firewall stops unwanted intruders from doing the same. Wireless range is impressive, especially on Wireless N.
Overall we are impressed with the Asus RT-N66U. Setup is easy and connection to the Internet and other associated devices is solid with fast speeds. The multitude of features make this a good buy, although it is a little more expensive than other home routers. As a customer, you will need to decide whether or not all the added features are required and worth paying the extra money.
