TP-Link AC Routers for 2015

TP-Link have been adding new routers to their premium ‘Archer’ series over the last couple of years. Starting off with the now classic Archer C7, TP-Link have gradually been adding to the collection. Most recently, the C9 Archer was unveiled, although it wasn’t massively different from its predecessors.

So, what TP-Link AC routers for 2015 are in the pipeline, you may ask…Well, TP-Link will release two all new Archer routers – the c2600 and the c3200. Each one slightly different.

3.2Gbps Theoretical Speed over Tri Band
Data rates hit 3.2Gbps with the c3200. There are there bands to choose from. 2 are on the 5GHz band (each maxing out at 1.3Gbps) and the 3rd on the slower 2.4GHz range (a further 600Mbps).

Having two 5GHz bands on the .11ac means that traffic loads can be balanced evenly over the two bands. Rather than having one AC device command all the bandwidth to itself, the idea with Tri-Band is that the available bandwidth is shared out so that multiple users can enjoy the benefits of fast Wi-Fi all at the same time.

Connectivity to the bands can be controlled automatically by the c3200 to ensure that bandwidth is used as efficiently as possible.

6 External Antennas
The bands are transmitted over the Archer c3200’s six external antennas. Each antenna can be moved independently, which helps to manually direct Wi-Fi beamwidth into the areas more concentrated with devices.

Plenty Of RAM
TP-Link have promised a chunky amount of memory will be available, to help out the CPU, and help eliminate any bottlenecks on board.

Smart Connect
As previously mentioned, the c3200 can intelligently add and remove devices to/from a band. This is done using ‘Smart Connect’, which as the title suggests can smartly move nodes around the Wi-Fi bands so that they get the best out of the network.

2.6Gbps Data Rates with MU-MIMO
The TP-Link Archer c2600 has up to 2.6Gbps theoretical rates, over Dual Band this time – the traditional single 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands. However, the c2600 has an ace up it’s sleeve, in that it uses MU-MIMO technology.

MU-MIMO can maximize throughput over Wi-Fi networks where signals bounce all over the walls and furniture in the home. It can bolster performance for more than one device at a time (like traditional single–user MIMO).

4 High Gain Antennas
Four antennas are on offer. Again helping with manual direction of beamwidth.

So, The TP-Link Archer’s – What Do We Know?

Both routers conveniently will have USB 3.0 ports, but at this time, it’s unconfirmed as to how many each will host. We have our fingers crossed for two of them!

Both routers also have the benefits of AC’s Beamforming technology – sending wireless signal in the direction of the wireless clients, helping to boost coverage and range.

Big deal, you may say….well, each router also has a few tricks up its sleeve. “What are they?” you may be asking. As luck would have it, we are going to tell you – well, what we know so far anyway…
