D-Link have not been slack with new hardware previews at this year’s CES.
The pick of the bunch are two routers that would appeal to those who don’t have money to burn, but want fast wifi. There’s also a wireless kit (router and range extender)for those who have large homes to cover.
D-Link’s New EXO Series Routers
D-Link Wifi AC Routers 2016 Preview
D-Link will launch the new EXO series router this year…
D-Link DIR-879 AC1900 EXO Wi-Fi Router
The DIR-879 is a dual band router from the new EXO series. It will ship with a dual core processor to accommodate the 1.9Gbps data rates provided.
There’s also Beamforming, to improve coverage…SmartConnect to push clients onto the best band…and the obligatory 4x LAN, 1x WAN Gig ports for the wired clients.
Sadly, there are no USB ports, so no centralized storage/printing here. But hey, it is a budget router after all, so sacrifices have to be made somewhere!
DIR-869 AC1750 Wi-Fi Router
This is much the same as the above DIR-879. However, the data rates are slightly less (1.75Gbps overall) and it doesn’t have the SmartConnect feature.
DKT-891 Unified Home Wi-Fi Network Kit with Adaptive Roaming Technology
For those with very large areas that require wifi coverage, the D-Link DKT-891 might be the way to go.
Rather than buying a router and separate repeater, D-Link have bundled the two into one package and called it the ‘DKT-891 Unified Home Wi-Fi Network Kit’.
Together they provide adaptive seamless roaming, so you can walk around your home seamlessly connecting to either the router or the extender without you being able to tell the difference.
DIR-891L AC4300 Tri-Band MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Router
The router is pretty powerful – a Tri-Band 4×4 MU-MIMO AC router with data rates totaling 4.3Gbps altogether (1.733Gbps on each 5GHz band and 800Mbps on 2.4GHz).
DAP-1655 AC1300 Gigabit Wi-Fi Extender
This is the accompanying repeater for the aforementioned DIR-891L router. The DAP-1655 is dual band and doesn’t support MU-MIMO, but the expectation is that more clients will be using the more powerful Tri-Band router as it will be located within the area of the home that gets hit with network access requests the most.
It supports data rates up to 1.3Gbps over both bands.
